Relay Conference Captioning
Relay Conference Captioning (RCC) is a free service provided by Relay Hawaii that allows deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals to participate in multi-party conference calls. A remote captioner listens to the call, captions the dialogue, and speaks on behalf of the deaf/hard-of-hearing participants.

Scheduling an RCC event
-
You must arrange for a conference bridge with your phone company or telecom services provider before arranging the RCC service. Relay Hawaii RCC provides the captioning and voice relay only for a conference call you have scheduled or have been invited to join.
-
Currently, all RCC calls are scheduled using an online ordering system at www.hawaiircc.com (high-speed Internet connection is not required).
-
Complete the online ordering form including date, time, conference call number, and PIN number, if needed, so that your captioner may dial-in to the event to hear the audio.
-
Schedule your event 48 hours (two working days) in advance to guarantee the service.
- Providing specific information when booking your event (i.e., proper names, call agenda, speaker or PowerPoint notes, etc.) improves conference call accuracy.

RCC Technical Requirements
-
RCC service is optimized for Internet Explorer 5.5 or greater with cookies and JavaScript enabled. Screen resolution should be 800 x 600 minimum (1024 x 768 or higher is recommended). Please reference your screen manufacturer’s directions for modifying your resolution settings.
-
RCC does not work with Netscape Navigator. Please use Microsoft Internet Explorer as your Web browser to view the streaming text captions.

What happens during an RCC call?
-
Your captioner will caption all dialogue during the conference call. Deaf/hard-of-hearing participants read the dialogue on-screen as it is spoken and captioned.
-
You type your comments/questions in a text entry window and they are spoken on your behalf by the RCC captioner at the earliest break or when deemed appropriate.
- While the captioner is speaking on your behalf, you will see your original text added to the real-time streaming display.

Built-on-the-fly Transcripts™
-
All meeting participants can save a Built-on-the-fly Transcript™ directly to their computers.
-
Transcripts may only be requested during event scheduling. Relay Hawaii RCC cannot accept requests for transcript copies after the booking process is completed because of relay service confidentiality requirements.
-
Transcripts are provided for free.
-
Transcripts include the entire captioned dialogue.
-
Captioned meeting notes can be emailed to anyone within minutes after the meeting is over.
